Started cleaning her up and doing some work. Did a bit of an inspection of what I have so far. Brakes respond nicely. All controls still work after a harsh winter. Tires have maybe 500 miles on them at most, like the guy said. The new battery will fit and the old battery was replaced in the early 2000s by my best guess so the thing wears normally as far as I can tell. The rear shocks are adjustable which was odd at first but that is how they came form the factory. So I am pretty sure the front and rear shocks are 30 years old. The Front seals are leaking a bit but not too bad. No oil or fuel leaks. Instrument cluster is cracked but working fine. I need a new turn signal on the back and a clutch lever. That should be it. Also, paging Jayhawk jake - I too have a domestic hatchback and a honda. The difference is my hot hatch is the more desirable/popular one while my bike is "neat" but ultimately isn't too unique for what it is. So I am a little reversed from your honda being a massive fanboy magnet backed up by results and your hatchback being "neat" but ultimately brushed aside a bit.......This is a surprisingly good garage to have though. "A domestic turbo hatch and a honda". I wonder who else has something similar? Anyways, enjoy the pics.

Meh, it's just the one. I'll see how much more it costs to get new ones all around but for now I'm more focused on getting on the road than anything else. My MSF course got pushed back to May *grumble grumble* so for now, let's just focus on getting on the road. I don't want to spend too much on aesthetics considering I'll probably fall over in the first month or two anyways. I'd rather have a round front headlight first and get a non-cracked instrument cluster.

Nighthawks are great bikes. Good choice.

Your Nighthawk is a sweet ride.... I'd have a good look at those Drum Brakes !

BTW, the adjustment on the rear shocks is just spring preload.

Ah, gotcha. It probably doesn't do much at this point due to age but still cool to know they thought of letting you be able to adjust the rear if you have a passenger or something.

And your bike is a bit faster than mine.....

Thanks. Though it was blind luck that led me to it. It was 800$ as-is and its a bike with all the user friendly stuff like hydraulic valves, shaft drive, disc brakes (front brakes anyways) and a moderateamount of go from the 650cc engine tempered by it being an 80s 650cc engine on a heavy frame so as long a I'm not gunning it like a dumbass it should be easy to ride.

Yeah, it was the perfect commute to class bike for me in college. Tons of miles put on and rock solid, fun...but not too fun, haha.

Adjustable shocks:

Kinda. That's for setting pre-load if you have a passenger. Best upgrade you could do is find a used modern shock/fork that fits
